Civ 6 Game Pass System
There are many factors in Sid Meier's Civilization 6 that can help lead players to victory. One of these factors is the obtaining of Great People. However, some players may have noticed the option to pass up on a Great Person when they have the opportunity to receive one.
Civilisation 6 Game Pass
Many Civilization 6 players would likely wonder what's the point of passing up on a Great Person. After all, there's a limited amount of each type in the game.

There however is a reason and it all comes down to how players want to play the game considering the desired victory condition, current state of the game, and personal preferences.
There are nine different types of Great People generally available for players in Civilization 6. The only exception is for Simón Bolívar of Gran Colombia who gains access to a tenth known as Comandante Generals. The other nine are:
- Great Admirals
- Great Engineers
- Great Merchants
- Great Scientists
- Great Writers
- Great Musicians
As mentioned before, there is a limited number of Great People in each category. This means that some players can go entire games without getting a specific Great Person type if they don't have the structures to build up points for the respective person. However, each Great Person is also unique with each one capable of performing a different action.
For example, both Leonardo Da Vinci and Mimar Sinan are both Great Engineers from the Renaissance Era. However they fulfill completely different actions when used, with Da Vinci triggering a Eureka moment for a random technology from the Modern Era as well as providing a culture bonus for all workshops, while Sinan provides +1 housing for the city he's used in as well as +1 amenity.
Because of each Great Person being unique, players may not want the next Great Person they are eligible for due to them not having a bonus useful for their goals. Instead of just taking them and essentially wasting all of their Great Person points for that category, they can pass so that they can keep some of their points and be prepared for the next person to come around in that category instead.
Players can see what the upcoming Great Person will do on the Great Person menu. By picking and choosing strategically, the odds of winning can be further put in the player's favor.
